On most home networks, local IP addresses are assigned automatically and are not meant to be permanent identities.&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;This matters when you connect directly to a printer, media server, smart-home device, or another computer by its address. If you assume that address never changes, a connection that worked yesterday can suddenly fail even though both devices are still online.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
