Reaching for the volume control each time is inconvenient, so many playback systems offer some form of &lt;strong&gt;loudness normalization&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;Loudness normalization tries to make different pieces of audio start from a more consistent perceived loudness.
