Why Some Devices Stop Charging Before 100 Percent

You plug in a phone or laptop, leave it connected, and later notice that the battery has stopped at 80%, 85%, or another level below full. The charger is still attached, yet the percentage does not rise. That can look like a weak charger or a failing battery, but on many devices it can be deliberate. Some phones and laptops offer a charge limit or related battery-care feature. Instead of keeping the battery near its maximum state of charge whenever power is available, the device stops charging at a lower level. The reason is a trade-off: you give up some unplugged runtime today in exchange for conditions that can reduce battery ageing over the longer term.
